100 MILE HOUSE, B.C. — There is good news today for residents in the 100 Mile House area as activity on the massive Flat Lake wildfire has decreased dramatically.

That has led to the area’s final evacuation order — for the Moose Valley area — being rescinded to alert status, meaning residents can return home.

The area remaining under alert is denoted below:

In addition, three evacuation alerts — for Flat Lake South, Green Lake and West Area #2 — have been lifted to all clear.

The B.C. Wildfire Service says the fire grew to nearly 74,000 hectares after it was ignited by a lightning strike on July 8.

BCWS conducted a series of controlled burns to remove fuels late last week, and crews were mopping up hot spots over the weekend. Rain over the past several days has helped keep the fire from growing.
