Evacuation Alert Lifted

Swansea Point and Queest Village areas given all clear as Shuswap-area fires calm

KAMLOOPS — The final evacuation alert issued due to the Two Mile Road wildfire has been rescinded.

The Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) gave the all clear for properties in the Swansea Point area on Monday (Aug. 23).

All properties within the community of Swansea Point, east of Mara Lake, and north to the boundary of the CSRD and the District of Sicamous are no longer on evacuation alert.

The BC Wildfire Service lists the Two Mile Road wildfire as a fire of note, measured at 2,499 hectares. It was discovered July 20 and it’s suspected to be human caused.

Elsewhere, the CSRD also rescinded its evacuation alert for properties impacted by the Crazy Creek Gorge wildfire east of Shuswap Lake.

Residences located at Pete Martin Bay and Queest Village, and properties approximately 1.5 kilometres south of Queest Village have been given the all clear. The Crazy Creek Gorge blaze is still a fire of note and is measured at 4,359 hectares. It was discovered on July 10.
