B.C. reports 1,434 new COVID-19 cases over the week, more than half of them in Interior Health

KAMLOOPS — According to the latest update from health officials, Interior Health once again accounted for more than half of B.C.’s new COVID-19 cases over a three-day period.

Between Aug. 13 and 16, the province is reporting 1,434 new cases of COVID-19 – including four epi-linked cases – with 734 of them (51 per cent) in Interior Health.

There are 5,090 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C., with 2,982 of them in Interior Health. Provincially, 104 individuals are in hospital, with 47 in intensive care. The remaining people are recovering at home in self-isolation.

Over the past 72 hours, there was one new death in Fraser Health. The provincial total is now 1,780.

Elsewhere, there were 316 new cases in Fraser Health (882 active), 198 in Vancouver Coastal Health (715 active), 112 in Island Health (307 active), and 74 in Northern Health (197). There were no new cases outside of Canada, although seven of those cases are still active.

The daily breakdown is as follows:

  • Aug. 13 to 14: 532 new cases
  • Aug. 14 to 15: 441 new cases
  • Aug. 15 to 16: 461 new cases

There are seven active outbreaks in long-term care facilities in the province. Four are in Interior Health (Nelson Jubilee Mano, Kootenay Street Village, Cottonwoods Care Centre in Kelowna, and Brookhaven Care Centre in West Kelowna), two in Fraser Health (Kin Village West Court in Delta and Evergreen Baptist Care Society in White Rock), and one in Island Health (Discovery Harbour in Campbell River).

In assisted or independent living facilities, there are three outbreaks in Kelwona: the second floor of Village at Mill Creek, Hawthorn Park, and David Lloyd Jones Home.

As of Monday 82.6 per cent (3,830,337) of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 73.2 per cent (3,393,049) received their second dose.
