Logan Lake loses power, Highland Valley mine no longer on evacuation order

Aug 14, 2021 | 2:00 PM

KAMLOOPS — The District of Logan Lake announced in its Aug. 14 evacuation update it has lost power as the Tremont Creek wildfire moved slowly towards the community.

The district states winds are light and are pushing the fire in a northerly direction, but that is expected to shift to a southerly direction within the next day or so. Due to the location of the fire and its current resources, the district will not issue entry permits for any reason.

All Logan Lake evacuees are asked to register with Emergency Support Services as soon as possible.

Registration can be done in person at Merritt (1721 Coldwater Ave.) or Chilliwack (Senior Secondary School – 46363 Yale Rd), or by phone at 1 844 537-7377 or online.

“We apologize for the confusion regarding registration as previous notices and some residents were advised that this is not required unless they need assistance for food or lodging. This is incorrect. We need to account for the whereabouts of our citizens, so this is an important process,” the district stated.

The Highland Valley mine site which corresponds to the District of Logan Lake boundaries has been removed from the evacuation order and is now on alert.
