KAMLOOPS – The latest COVID-19 numbers are a gloomy start to the weekend. B.C. is reporting 717 new cases in the last 24 hours, the highest daily total since early May.

There are 376 new cases within the Interior Health region alone. The number of active cases in the Interior Health region has risen to 2,446.

11 outbreaks have now been declared in long-term care or assisted living facilities across BC. Nelson Jubilee Manor, Kootenay Street Village, Cottonwoods Care Centre, Brookhaven Care Centre, and Village at Mill Creek long-term care homes in the Interior Health region are the sites of outbreaks as well as Hawthorn Park and David Lloyd Jones assisted or independent living facilities.

Yesterday the province announced a mandatory vaccination policy for anyone working in those facilities. Workers have until October 12 to complete their vaccinations. Until then, the unvaccinated are required to wear masks.
