Tremont Creek wildfire jumps containment lines south of Savona

Aug 12, 2021 | 10:56 AM

KAMLOOPS – The Tremont Creek wildfire is burning aggressively again.

The BC Wildfire Service says the fire jumped containment lines east of Leighton lake and burned aggressively overnight to the north and south.

Fire officials says the new areas of growth are located about eight kilometres from the area where some back-burning was down earlier this week.

Ground crews and heavy equipment monitored the fire overnight and conducted some suppression work.

Air tankers were used last night to try to prevent the fire from jumping fire guards. Fixed wing skimmers are attacking the fire from the air today (Aug. 12), accessing water from Kamloops Lake.

Evacuation Alerts remain in place for the communities of Savona and Tobiano. Evacuation Orders are in place for properties in the vicinity of Tunkwa Lake.

The BC Wildfire Service’s latest estimate of the fire size is 33,238 hectares.
