Petel drops out of election race
KAMLOOPS — It looks like it’s back to the drawing board for the federal Liberals in the Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo riding.
It was only last weekend when George Petel was acclaimed as the Liberal candidate in the riding. Yesterday, he posted on his Facebook page that he has decided to drop out of the race, preferring instead to focus on work and his family.
Petel pulls out without giving any further details. A lawyer, Petel has Secwepemc and Caucasian background.
The Liberal Party hasn’t said what’s next in their hope to find a strong candidate. Liberal spokesperson Parker Lund said in an email to CFJC Today- “I would refer you to the post Mr. Petel has made about his decision not to stand as a candidate. In light of his decision, the nomination process in Kamloops will be moving forward in line with all of our national nomination rules “
