Highway 97 closed as White Rock Lake wildfire burns aggressively

KAMLOOPS – Wind gusts of up to 40 kilometres an hour are forecast to sweep across the White Rock Lake wildfire southeast of Kamloops.

Drive BC is reporting on Highway 97 has been closed between Monte Creek and the Salmon River road. No date has been given for the road to be reopened.

B.C. Wildfire Service officials say they are expecting to see increased fire activity through the day. That’s expected to challenge suppression efforts along northeast and east flanks of the fire where Evacuation Orders are in place for Westwold and Falkland.

Extreme burning conditions are expected through the weekend with highs approaching 30 celsius, low humidity and gusty winds.
