Evacuation orders issued for Westwold, Monte Lake, and Falkland due to White Rock Lake fire

KAMLOOPS — Evacuation orders were issued for 271 properties in the vicinity of Westwold and Monte Lake, and all of the Falkland and Cedar Hill area late Wednesday (Aug. 4) evening.

The orders from the Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) and the Columbia-Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) are in response to the 32,500-hectare White Rock Lake wildfire and its potential danger to life, safety, and structures.

The Westwold and Monte Lake and area properties affected include:

  • 5644 to 5737 Back Rd.
  • 4732 to 4754 Buff Frontage Rd.
  • 6607 to 6725 Bulman Rd.
  • 6539 Douglas Lake Rd.
  • 3526 to 6975 Hwy. 97
  • 4120 to 4249 Kristianson Rd.
  • 3787 to 3862 Mill Rd.
  • 3754 to 3903 Monte Lake Rd.
  • 3928 to 5070 Paxton Valley Rd.
  • 6639 Pringle Rd.
  • 6572 and 6593 Service Rd.
  • 4294 Strong Rd.
  • 5469 to 5545 Westlund Rd.
  • 6365 to 6504 Westwold Station Rd.
  • any properties within the boundary outlined on the attached map

Residents in the described area must leave immediately. TNRD residents are asked to proceed to the nearest Reception Centre at McArthur Island Sports Centre located at 1655 Island Parkway in Kamloops to complete the Emergency Support Services registration. The reception centre will be open until midnight and will reopen at 9 a.m.

Falkland and Cedar Hill area

CSRD said there are no commercial lodgings available at this time and residents should make arrangements to stay overnight with family or friends outside the evacuation order area. Then, register in-person at the Salmon Arm Reception Centre at the Prestige Harbourfront Resort, located at 251 Harbourfront Dr. in Salmon Arm beginning at 8 a.m. on Thursday (Aug. 5).

If someone’s property is their primary residence and they cannot stay with family or friends, they’re asked to report to the Prestige Harbourfront Resort Reception Centre before midnight or after 8 a.m.
