NANAIMO — A man involved in a dirt bike crash on Nanaimo’s Rock City Rd. is expected to survive.

Nanaimo RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien informed NanaimoNewsNOW the man is in stable condition after he lost control of his bike around noon on Tuesday, Aug. 3.

The rider, who was the bike’s lone occupant, was flown to hospital in Victoria with what police called life-threatening injuries.

He was not wearing a helmet and speed may have been a contributing factor, police said.

The crash happened on Rock City Rd. just east of the trailhead accessing Linley Valley Cottle Park.

There are steep hills and a sharp turn near the crash scene.

Rock City Rd. was closed for several hours Tuesday between Ocean Pearl Terr. and Barrington Rd. as police investigated the scene.
