Man stabbed, air lifted to hospital following altercation near Qualicum resort

QUALICUM BEACH — One man remains in hospital with serious injuries following a stabbing.

Police and emergency services were called to near the Riverside Resort in the 3500 block of Island Hwy. West around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 31, after reports of an assault.

Sgt. Stephen Rose from Oceanside RCMP told NanaimoNewsNOW, a man in his 40’s was stabbed with a knife by an 18-year-old attacker.

“He was treated by an off duty paramedic before the arrival of police, but was subsequently transported by air ambulance to hospital for further assessment.”

The man remains in hospital as of Saturday night with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect was arrested a short distance away from the resort and remains in police custody.

Both individuals are known to each other, but Rose said they were not previously known to police.

Multiple officers from the detachment, in addition to a nearby highway patrol unit, descended on the scene.

“Given the gravity of the offence, we did call upon several support section to offer assistance as it unfolded. The matter has been turned over to our local general investigation section for follow-up.”
