Fire near Sicamous over 1,000 hectares, Highway 97A remains closed

KAMLOOPS — An update was provided Sunday (July 25) on the wildfires impacting the Shuswap.

The Two Mile fire that put parts Sicamous on evacuation alert and order remains at over 1,000 hectares. The Columbia Shuswap Regional District said getting accurate mapping is currently difficult due to smoke conditions.

B.C. Wildfire Service still has 28 firefighters on scene and Structural Protection Units have day and night crews set up. Highway 97A remains closed with a detour in effect via Highway 97B.

Further north of Sicamous, the Hunakwa Lake fire is estimated at over 2,000 hectares. There are still 14 B.C. Wildfire Service firefighters and two helicopters working in the area, as well as heavy equipment that continues to build guard.
