MINNEAPOLIS — Roger Sloan is having himself a tournament at the perfect time.

The Merrittonian entered this week’s 3M Open ranked 147 in the FedEx Cup and at risk of losing his tour card for next season. PGA Pros need to finish within the top-125 to secure a tour card for the following season.

On Friday, Sloan was tasked with playing 20-holes of golf after having his first round suspended due to darkness.

Sloan would complete his first round with near ace on the par-3 eight hole, taping in from six inches for birdie, and a par on the ninth. The 7-under (64) had Sloan tied for the first-round lead.

He started his second round just has he finished the first with a birdie on 1.

Sloan found himself alone in first place heading to the 18th before putting his second shot on the par-5 in the water. He would go on to save bogey and fall into tie for first place with three others at -9.

The bogey on 18 was his first of the tournament.

As the rest of the field finished, Sloan was passed by fellow Canadian Adam Hadwin and American Ryan Armour. Sloan now sits tied for third, one stroke behind Hadwin and Armour.
