KAMLOOPS — There were some tense moments in Batchelor Heights Wednesday afternoon (July 21).

Kamloops Fire Rescue and RCMP officers conducted a brief tactical evacuation of about ten homes on Saddleback Court after a gas line was hit.

Among the people told to leave was Hilary Pink, whose family was driven from their Whitecroft home July 10 by the Embleton Mountain wildfire.

Pink says she was staying in Batchelor Heights at the home of a family friend who is on vacation.

“We actually went to Sheridan Lake first, to our family cabin, and then got evacuated from there,” Pink told CFJC Today. “Then, our friend happened to be out of town for a week, so we came here because the friend was vacationing and we were able to use his home. [Now] we just got the call that we have to get out.”

The evacuation in Batchelor Heights was called off less than an hour after it began, and residents were given the all-clear.
