Person hospitalized after serious police dog bite injury on Quadra Island

QUADRA ISLAND — An incident drawing a substantial police response to Quadra Island is being reviewed by the Independent Investigations Office.

According to the IIO, police responded to reports of a person reportedly with a weapon causing a disturbance at a property on the island east of Campbell River Sunday night.

The affected person did not comply with police and sustained a serious bite from a police service dog while being arrested.

The person was later transported to hospital.

Anybody with relevant information about the incident is asked to contact the IIO.

The incident occurred at a property on Spruce Pl., not far from the Quathaski Cove ferry terminal.

Numerous officers from the Vancouver Island Emergency Response team were seen traveling north on the Island Hwy. to attend the Quadra Island incident.
