Construction begins on Coldwater Road-High Canada Place emergency exit
KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops Civic Operations crews have begun work on the Coldwater Road-Canada High Place emergency exit road between Juniper Ridge and Rose Hill.
It comes approximately two weeks after a large fire caused a scare for residents in the Juniper Ridge and Valleyview neighbourhoods.
Kamloops’ Chief Administrative Officer David Trawin said the city has a 20-metre right-of-way access to the emergency exit, and crews will look to widen the roadway. He noted it won’t be a permanent road for the city, though.
“There will be a gate separating it between Juniper and Rose Hill,” Trawin said. “It could be utilized to evacuate Rose Hill and Juniper, but it won’t be a full road. The road we’re looking at getting going full time is the Qu’Appelle Extension. I’ve spoke to the developer about moving that through, and the province about getting a right of way access over that road. The developer has done some preliminary design on that.”
