KAMLOOPS — More alerts issued, some rescinded. A mixed picture on the wildfire front this morning (Tuesday).

301 fires are currently burning in B.C., 16 of those springing up in the past two days. 98 are burning in the Kamloops Fire Centre.

The largest, at Sparks Lake, didn’t grow much yesterday and is still listed as just over 40,000 hectares. It is still out of control and challenged the fireguards again yesterday. Work on the south branch of the fire will involve improving control lines today, while on the north branch, the structure protection branch is working on triage and protection, as well as improving the control lines. The TNRD issued another update last night regarding the Sparks Lake wildfire. The latest order involves 9 additional properties in area “J”, Copper Desert Country. These involve properties in the Copper Creek Road, Sabiston Creek Road, and the Savona Dump Road.

The Embleton Mountain fire near Sun Peaks is listed at 466 hectares. Yesterday, the fire was burning upslope away from the community. An alert for the area north of Whitecroft on the Heffley-Louis Creek Road is still in effect.

On the positive side of things, an evacuation alert in the vicinity of Napier Lake put in place July 7th has now been rescinded and an “all clear” issued. Other alerts remain in effect in Area “E” west of Flat Lake, and the Lower North Thompson. The Cariboo Regional District issued an evacuation alert last night for 449 properties in the Anahim Lake area, covering 143,166 hectares.
