KAMLOOPS — The concourse at the Sandman Centre will be open between today (July 12) and Wednesday (July 14) as a cooling centre to provide residents with temporary relief from the current heat event.

A heat warning was issued for the Interior Health region, where daytime temperatures are expected to be above 35 Celsius for two consecutive days, and overnight temperatures to remain above 18 Celsius.

The Sandman Cooling Centre hours will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday, and 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Continued high temperatures put many vulnerable populations at risk of heat-related illnesses, such as the elderly, infants and young children, pregnant women, people with chronic illness and people experiencing homelessness.
