KAMLOOPS — The Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) has ordered the evacuation of 18 properties in the path of the Sparks Lake wildfire northwest of Kamloops.

The following properties are affected by the Wednesday morning (June 30) order:

  • 5810 to 6120 Tranquille-Criss Creek Rd
  • Any other properties identified in the map below

The new evacuations bring the total to 27 properties whose occupants have been told to leave.

Evacuees are directed to register with the TNRD in the parking lot of the McArthur Island Sport and Event Centre in Kamloops.

Meantime, the B.C. Wildfire Service has adjusted its estimated size of the fire to 4,000 hectares.

Fire Information Officer Aydan Coray says wind and extreme heat have been challenging.

“There was activity overnight, our crews reported,” Coray told CFJC Today. “Currently, we have 35 firefighters, seven helicopters, six skimmer airplanes and two pieces of heavy equipment (on the fire). More resources will be allocated as needed throughout the day.”

“We are expecting some winds through this afternoon and evening with the incoming thunderstorms, so some of those winds may be a challenge for us but [wildfire officials] are trying to be strategic about planning where our crews are headed.”
