Kamloops Arts Council hires TRU alumnus as new executive director
KAMLOOPS — Tanya Nielsen was introduced as the Kamloops Arts Council’s new executive director Friday (June 25).
“My interest has always been in the ability to take some words and turn them into poetry, make a few brushstrokes become a painting, and mix some ingredients into a pie,” Nielsen said. “I love the process, and I also celebrate the product… especially if it’s chocolate or blueberry. Throughout my education and career, I have learned that it takes great people, hard work, a lot of time, and art that speaks to a community, to make a great arts organization. I am excited to be joining an arts council that is just that.”
Nielsen loves creativity so much that she wrote a master’s thesis on the role failure plays in the creative process of making art.
She received her BFA in Gallery Studies from Thompson Rivers University and worked for 5 years in conference and event management, based in Newfoundland, with events around the world. She has spent the last 3 years working for the Quesnel Art Gallery in various roles.
