Island Health sees uptick in COVID-19 cases after quiet week

NANAIMO — Island Health faced an uptick in COVID-19 cases.

Five new cases were confirmed on Friday, June 22, after two days of only two new cases each day. The number of active cases rose to 29 from 25 on Thursday.

Sixteen active cases are in the central island area, representing more than half of the active cases throughout the Island Health region. There are 12 active cases in the south and one remaining active case in the northern region.

Across B.C. a further 72 new cases were discovered, primarily in the Vancouver Coastal and Fraser health regions.

Two new fatalities were recorded.

Slightly more than 76 per cent of B.C. residents over 12-years-old have received their first dose of COVID-19 shot.
