B.C. sees 87 new cases of COVID-19, nearly half in Interior Health

VICTORIA — Nearly one quarter of B.C. adults are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix stated on Wednesday (June 23) that 24.3 per cent of all adults in B.C. and 22.7 per cent of those 12 and older have received their second dose. They also noted that 77.7 per cent of adults and 76.2 per cent of those 12 and up have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

In total, 4,570,153 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in B.C. – 1,051,910 of which are second doses.

There were 87 new cases of COVID-19 in B.C. on Wednesday, 41 of which are in Interior Health (IH). IH had most of the new COVID-19 cases out of any health region in B.C.

Henry noted the active COVID-19 caseload in B.C. is 1,119 Tuesday, a decrease of 31 from Tuesday. There are 109 people in hospital (-2) and 41 in critical or intensive care (no change).

Within Interior Health, there 272 active cases, an increase of 13 from Tuesday. There are seven people in hospital, with six in critical care.

There was one new death from the virus recorded in B.C., leaving the provincial death toll at 1,744. The death toll remains at 155 for Interior Health.

A total of 144,383 people are considered fully recovered from COVID-19, or 98 per cent of all recorded cases.
