Pending eased restrictions, City of Kamloops eyes late-August return for Music in the Park

KAMLOOPS — Depending on how provincial health restrictions are lifted, the City of Kamloops says some form of Music in the Park may be able to go forward later this summer.

For now, plans are tentative. But City of Kamloops Business Operations and Events Supervisor Sean Smith says they’ll be able to solidify what will happen with the popular summer staple if the next round of B.C restrictions are lifted on July 1.

“You know, if there’s anything possible, I’m thinking that we’re looking at late August to provide some sort of modified version of Music in the Park that I’m sure the residents would love and enjoy.”

The longstanding event won’t be as large as previous years, or have as many acts in the line-up, but Smith says whatever form it takes will have to be done in a way that keeps people feeling safe.

“There are options that we can look at,” notes Smith. “Some places do the circles in the grass and they expect people to sit within those circles, maybe a fenced area so we can control numbers — it will all depend on what restrictions are at the time.”

Should health restrictions allow for the event, the City says it expects to have an update on Music in the Park status in July.
