Thief strikes numerous times across Vancouver Island in one-week crime spree

PARKSVILLE — Mounties are looking for man wanted for numerous incidents across the mid-island including theft of a vehicle.

According to Oceanside RCMP, a Chevy Silverado pick-up truck was reported stolen from a Crome Point Road property in Deep Bay around 6 p.m. on June 11.

Just two hours later the RCMP got a report of a possible break and enter at a paint store in Qualicum Beach. Police said the truck seen leaving the scene matched the description to the truck stolen earlier.

On June 15, a hit-and-run at a hardware store was reported to Ladysmith RCMP. The truck involved in the incident matched the description of the truck stolen from Deep Bay.

Later the same day, North Cowichan RCMP received a call regarding vehicle theft and personal items including a credit card were stolen. Police said the credit card was used at a gas station in Chemanius.

Finally on June 16, the stolen truck was was spotted by RCMP at an auto centre in Youbou. After checks revealed the truck was stolen, an officer attempted to arrest the driver, before he fled on foot.

Despite a search which included a Police Service Dog, the man was not found.

“We are asking anyone who has information about any of these events, or can assist in identifying this man to contact the RCMP,” Sgt. Janelle Shoihet said in a release.

The man is described as caucasian with a thin build, 5’8 with short hair.

He was last seen wearing a green Element shirt with cameo shorts, black socks and white running shoes.

He had a grey and black Hockey Canada hat with a bandana over his face and aviator sunglasses.
