Week ends with 109 new COVID-19 cases in B.C., 26 in Interior Health

VICTORIA — B.C. is reporting 109 new cases of COVID-19 heading into the weekend, with 26 cases found in Interior Health.

The totals are included in an update provided by Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.

Overall, there have been 146,902 cases of COVID-19 found in B.C. since the pandemic began, spread out as follows:

  • 35,310 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 13)
  • 85,493 — Fraser Health (up by 65)
  • 5,145 — Island Health (unchanged)
  • 12,971 — Interior Health (up by 26)
  • 7,780 — Northern Health (up by 5)
  • 203 — Reside outside of Canada (up by 1)

The active caseload in B.C. is 1,389 Friday (June 18), a decrease of 62 from Thursday. There are 128 people in hospital and 48 in intensive care.

Within Interior Health, there are 299 active cases of the virus, 34 fewer than Thursday. There are 13 people in hospital and seven in critical care.

One more person has died of COVID-19, lifting the provincial death toll to 1,740. The Interior Health death toll remains at 155.

A total of 143,748 people are considered fully recovered from COVID-19, or 98 per cent of all recorded cases.

Henry says 76.7 per cent of all adults and 75.1 per cent of all British Columbians aged 12 or older have now received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine. A total of 4.3 million doses have been administered, including 823,371 second doses.
