WASHINGTON — A New York congressman says Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and President Joe Biden will discuss plans to reopen the Canada-U.S. border when they meet on the margins of the G7 summit.

Rep. Brian Higgins says the White House has confirmed the two leaders will discuss the matter either today or Friday.

Higgins, one of the most vocal U.S. critics of the ongoing border restrictions, is taking part in a panel discussion on the issue alongside Liberal MP Wayne Easter.

Ottawa says as of early July, Canadian citizens and permanent residents who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 will only have to isolate until they test they take on arrival comes back negative, instead of the mandatory 14-day quarantine now in effect.
