B.C. COVID-19 case count grows by 165, with 42 new cases found in Interior Health

VICTORIA — B.C. has found another 165 cases of COVID-19, including 42 within Interior Health.

The numbers were released as part of an update from the B.C. Ministry of Health Tuesday (June 8).

Overall, B.C. has recorded 145,695 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began, spread out thusly:

  • 35,155 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 30)
  • 84,868 — Fraser Health (up by 78)
  • 5,086 — Island Health (up by 10)
  • 12,661 — Interior Health (up by 42)
  • 7,724 — Northern Health (up by 5)
  • 200 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

The province’s active COVID-19 caseload is down to 2,051, a decrease of 51 from Monday. There are 203 patients in hospital with 57 in intensive care.

No new deaths were recorded Tuesday. The provincial death toll remains at 1,722, while the Interior Health death toll is at 152.

A total of 141,879 people are considered fully recovered from COVID-19, or 97 per cent of all recorded cases.

The health ministry notes vaccination levels are up to 74.2 per cent for adults and 71.9 per cent for all eligible British Columbians aged 12 or older.
