United Way Thompson Nicola Cariboo raises more than 71,000 pieces of period products for charities
KAMLOOPS — United Way Thompson Nicola Cariboo said its Period Promise campaign raised nearly $36,000 worth of period products – over 71,405 total pieces to support 2,856 people – in 2021.
The period products will be donated to Kamloops organizations that support people who menstruate in the community and may face economic barriers. The organizations include:
- Ask Wellness – SHOP Program
- Interior Community Services – Youth Outreach
- BGC Kamloops – Youth Hampers
- Elizabeth Fry Society – Stepping Stones
- Salvation Army
- Canadian Mental Health Association – Emerald House
- The Tree
“Even in a pandemic year, our community rises to the challenge and meets the needs of others,” United Way Thompson Nicola Cariboo Executive Director Katie Neustaeter said. “Thank you to everyone who donated, to Kamloops Alliance for [their] facility and contribution, to the businesses who acted as collection sites, our sponsors, and to the incredible volunteers who made this a roaring success. Our work to improve the lives of others is only possible when it’s done united.”
