Only 1 new COVID-19 case found in Island Health once again

NANAIMO — The number of new COVID-19 cases remains low in Island Health.

Only one new case was confirmed by the health authority for the second day in a row. The new case was found in the south Vancouver Island area.

There are currently 52 active cases in Island Health, down seven from the day before. Central Vancouver Island accounts for 21 of the active cases.

These are the lowest numbers found in Island Health since the end of October before the second wave began.

There is a data discrepancy between Island Health and the province, based on the timing of COVID-19 results. NanaimoNewsNOW reports local verified data from Island Health.

B.C. recorded its second day of less than 200 new COVID-19 cases with 194. Nearly all of the cases are in the Vancouver Coastal and Fraser health regions.

There are currently 2,662 active cases across B.C. with 246 people hospitalized and 70 of those patients receiving intensive care.

Four new fatalities were recorded.

Nearly 62,000 vaccine doses were administered the day before. Currently 71.1 per cent of the province has received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine.
