Crews were called to the former drive-in property along the Halston Connector near Salish Road at about 10:40 a.m.

KFR Acting Platoon Captain Shawn Davidson says three bush trucks, two water tenders and one engine and their crews descended on the scene to snuff it out.

“It definitely grew at a fairly quick rate because of the winds,” Davidson told CFJC Today. “It was in a very visible spot, obviously, with a major thoroughfare right beside it – the Halston Connector. We definitely did have a few challenges as far as accessing it when we got there.”

Firefighters were still mopping up the scene mid-afternoon Wednesday.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined. Davidson says no one was injured.

Despite some rainfall this week, he says conditions are still good for fires to spread quickly.

“We basically have not had enough rain to change a lot of the fire conditions out there, so we’re just reminding everyone that conditions are dry and to be very diligent when it comes to any activity outside.”
