New Afton receives provincial permit to begin B3 zone mining

KAMLOOPS — The New Gold-New Afton mine just west of Kamloops has reached what it calls a “significant milestone”, receiving its provincial approval to begin mining the so-called B3 zone.

The B3 zone is located adjacent to the underground area currently being mined.

“With the receipt of the B3 permit, ore extraction activities will begin this quarter and ramp-up over the year,” said New Gold President and CEO Renaud Adams in a news release.

Once production from the zone ramps up, it is expected to represent up to 25 per cent of New Afton’s total production.

Even as it begins production on the B3 zone, the company is continuing to develop the larger C-Zone, which is located beneath the B3 zone.
