Property tax notices coming out; new process for Home Owner Grant applications

May 21, 2021 | 10:59 AM

KAMLOOPS — There is an important procedure change for B.C. property taxpayers this summer.

As property tax notices are distributed this week, homeowners will notice they can no longer apply for the Home Owner Grant (HOG) through their local municipality. Instead, they have to apply for the grants through the provincial government.

Property taxes and HOG applications will still be due on July 2 to avoid a 10 per cent penalty for late payments.

To apply for the HOG, or for more information, visit this website or call 1 (888) 355-2700.

While that change may be less convenient for homeowners, another change may be more convenient for those within the City of Kamloops — property taxes can now be paid with Visa or Mastercard, whether online or in person.

Taxes paid by credit card will be subject to a 1.75 per cent service fee.

To pay property taxes online, visit this website. Otherwise, taxpayers can make payments through their banks, over the phone, through online banking, at one of the City’s three drop boxes or in person at City Hall.
