Barb’s Used Book and Music Sale takes on new format

KAMLOOPS — A biannual fundraiser for the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra (KSO) has been reimagined this season.

Barb’s Used Book and Music Sale is normally an in-person shopping event, but because of pandemic restrictions, the KSO have adapted the fundraiser.

This time around people will select what genre of books they would like to purchase and will receive a mixed bag of titles.

“It’s kind of luck of the draw,” said KSO Executive Director Daniel Mills. “We go and pick some high quality books within those categories, put them in a bag and they pick them and it’s a mystery to see what they get. Of course, they’re reduced rates, but it’s our new way of trying to see how this works out.”

In regular seasons, the book sale has managed to raise more than $50,000 to support the KSO.

This abbreviated event is running from Wednesday (May 12) to Saturday (May 15) with pickup at 444 Seymour Street.

“We’re also accepting donations for future sales,” Mills said. “We are of course, as soon as we’re able to, we’ll be planning a full sale, something similar to what we’ve done in the past. So, in the same period of time we’ll be taking in donations for the future.”
