RADIUM — B-C Mounties say a Good Samaritan was hurt after stopping to help a crash victim on Saturday. Police say a passing motorist pulled over to help in the Kootenay National Park area north of Radium , after a vehicle went down an embankment.

R-C-M-P say the Good Samaritan climbed down the embankment to help the victim, but was then injured when the wreckage shifted. Both the driver and the Good Samaritan are recovering in hospital after rescue crews had to perform two long-line rescues to get the men to safety.

Police say the Good Samaritan, a 46-year-old man, was airlifted by STARS Air Ambulance to Alberta. RCMP added he was said to be in stable condition, noting he had just celebrated his birthday the day prior to the crash.

The trapped driver, a 44-year-old man, was taken to a local hospital by ambulance.
