Dry April drops Kamloops-area snowpack well below normal

VICTORIA — A very dry month of April has dropped snowpack around the Kamloops area to well below normal levels.

According to the May 1 snow survey from the B.C. River Forecast Centre, overall snowpack in B.C. is 106 per cent of normal.

However, the areas with the lowest snowpack are around Kamloops. The North Thompson is at 99 per cent of normal, the South Thompson is at 80 per cent and the Lower Thompson, between Kamloops Lake and Lytton, is at 77 per cent.

The Nicola basin is only at 64 per cent of normal.
