Theresa Leigh Tahara “A Real Tough Cookie”
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Theresa Leigh Tahara (nee Groves) on April 13, 2021. Terrie is survived by her loving children Michael and Toyoko, their father Masanori (Rosemarie), her sister Shirley (Danny), and her faithful feline companion Leela 💖. She will be lovingly remembered by nieces, nephews, extended family, her many friends, and her art community.
Strong, creative, independent, curious, loving, and funny, Terrie kept her sense of humour until the very end. Her children were honoured and grateful to be by her side in her final months. Motherhood was central to Terrie’s life, a blessing, and a role she took to naturally. She was always very proud of her children and the warm gentle people they grew up to be.
A believer in the oneness of spirit and the flow of energy in our lives, Terrie held a natural awareness that life goes beyond the limits of our bodies and this lifetime.
We remember Terrie as a beautiful creative soul. She loved nature, being outdoors in her garden, painting and taking photographs. She combined these loves after retirement when she was able to better focus on her photography. Blurring the lines between a picture and a painting, Terrie drew us into her love of nature and seeing the beauty in the world around us. In her own words:
“I believe that the more we look for beauty in this world, the more beauty there is to be found. If it is an expectation, it will appear, and I try to convey this appearance with my photography. Life itself can be an endless creative journey and I am glad to be part of it.”
Terrie leaves behind a legacy with her art, which will continue to be showcased and sold online. Proceeds from continued sales of her work will be partly donated to charity. To view Terrie’s art, please see the links at the bottom.
We move forward with sadness, humbled hearts, and the hope that we too will be able to see beauty shimmer in the world the way that Terrie did. We love you and miss you Mom.
We would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone at The Interior Health Palliative Care Program and the staff at Marjorie Willoughby for your compassion, patience, and kindness in Terrie’s last few weeks.
A memorial service will be held outdoors this summer once lockdown restrictions are hopefully lighter. For now, please join our Facebook page: Remembering a loved one, Theresa Tahara or email: rememberingtheresa@gmail.com for updates.
