Streamflow advisory issued for Bonaparte River near Cache Creek

CACHE CREEK, B.C. — It has almost become a rite of spring; the community of Cache Creek is being warned about the rising Bonaparte River.
The B.C. River Forecast Centre (BCRFC) issued a high streamflow advisory for the Bonaparte on Sunday afternoon (Apr. 18).
The advisory notes the high pressure ridge that brought sunshine and mid-20s temperatures to the Thompson valleys has produced “significant snow melt at lower and mid-elevations.” That has resulted in steadily rising levels on the Bonaparte, which already at a 24 cubic-metres-per-second, considered a two-year flow rate.
Models predict a steady level over the coming days, but the BCRFC has expressed some reticence in its modelling due to the “hydrological complexities” of the upstream lake systems.
