First ever virtual ‘Remergence Festival’ aims to fill springtime performing arts void in Kamloops

KAMLOOPS — Two theatre groups in Kamloops are going to a virtual format for a performing arts festival.

Western Canada Theatre and Chimera Theatre are holding the first “Remergence Festival” at Pavilion Theatre in Kamloops from May 5 to 15. The faux word “remergence” means “coming together, rising out of the depths and returning to something better,” according to a news release.

Performing arts groups haven’t been able to hold shows in front of live audiences since November, 2020 when B.C.’s public health guidelines enacted new restrictions.

More than 24 local acts will cover theatre, music, improv and variety. as part of the festival.

The Remergence Festival will be in place of the Hydra Festival typically hosted by Chimera Theatre.
