KAMLOOPS — There will not be a Memorial Cup champion in 2021.

The tournament to crown a champion in Major Junior Hockey has been cancelled — the rug pulled out from under it by COVID-19 for a second straight year.

This years Memorial Cup was to have been hosted by the Ontario Hockey League.

Last years Memorial Cup tournament, which would have been played in Kelowna, was cancelled following the outbreak of COVID-19, which continues to cast large, dark shadow a year later.

With the Western and Quebec Leagues playing shortened seasons, and the Ontario League not playing at all while it continues discussions with the Ontario government on a return to play, the Canadian Hockey League says it made the difficult decsion to cancel the Memorial Cup for a second straight year.
