B.C. finds 873 new COVID-19 cases; active case load down

VICTORIA — The province is reporting 873 new cases of COVID-19 Tuesday (Apr. 13), including 72 within Interior Health.

The totals were released in spite of a delay in the Public Health Reporting Data Warehouse (PHRDW), and may be adjusted once they are double-checked.

If it holds, that would mean there have been 113,702 total cases of the virus found in B.C., spread out thusly:

  • 28,262 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 218)
  • 64,916 — Fraser Health (up by 512)
  • 4,082 — Island Health (up by 43)
  • 9,666 — Interior Health (up by 72)
  • 6,595 — Northern Health (up by 28)
  • 179 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

There are now 9,756 active cases of COVID-19 in B.C., a decrease of 181 from Monday. There are 377 people in hospital and 116 in intensive care.

Within Interior Health, there are 916 active cases, up by 16 from Monday. Twenty-four people are hospitalized, with ten in critical care.

Two more people have died of the virus, raising the COVID-19 death toll in B.C. to 1,515. Neither of the deaths took place within Interior Health, leaving the regional death toll at 120.

There are currently 5,221 confirmed cases considered variants of concern in B.C.:

  • 3,627 — B.1.1.7 (originated in United Kingdom)
  • 65 — B.1.351 (originated in South Africa)
  • 1,529 — P.1 (originated in Brazil)

Henry reports 16,290 people under active public health monitoring due to direct COVID-19 contact.

Another 102,268 people are considered fully recovered from the virus, or 90 per cent of all confirmed cases.

Henry notes 1,148,993 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered.
