Don’t let your puppy excitement make you an unwitting scam victim: Ashcroft RCMP

ASHCROFT, B.C. — RCMP say a Vancouver Island resident was scammed out of $800 after agreeing to buy a puppy from a Cache Creek resident.

In a release, Ashcroft RCMP say they received the report from the victim on Sunday (Apr. 11).

The victim told police she agreed to pay $800 for a Jack Russell-Frenchie pup from a seller from Cache Creek.

The buyer paid the purchase price via e-transfer, but the seller never showed up at the pre-arranged meeting location to complete the transaction.

“We strongly urge online shoppers and puppy lovers to educate themselves and seriously consider adopting animals in person,” said Sgt. Darren Angman of Ashcroft RCMP in the release.
