KAMLOOPS — UPDATE — 11:25 a.m.: RCMP are wrapping up their investigation, concluding the situation did not present a danger to the public.

Pacific Way Elementary says the hold-and-secure has been lifted at the school.

UPDATE: Speaking to CFJC Today, RCMP spokesperson Cst. Crystal Evelyn says police are trying to determine the source a loud noise initially reported as a gunshot.

Evelyn says it is not believed there is any danger to the public, but investigators have yet to confirm the source of the noise.

“Police are in the area of Turnberry Place right now. There is a police presence; if you were to come up here, you would see several police cars right now in the area. That’s in response to a report of a loud noise – possibly a gunshot,” she said.

Evelyn confirms Pacific Way Elementary is on hold-and-secure.

She asks the public to avoid the area to allow investigators to complete their work.

EARLIER: The Kamloops-Thompson School District confirms a hold-and-secure has been ordered at Pacific Way Elementary School Monday morning (Apr. 12).

Details are scarce but the hold-and-secure was ordered at about 10:30 a.m.

There are reports that firecrackers were set off in the area, and someone may have mistaken them for gunshots.

A caller to CFJC Today reported seeing six RCMP cruisers rush up Pacific Way toward upper Aberdeen.

CFJC Today is awaiting more details from Kamloops RCMP and the Kamloops-Thompson School District.

More to come.
