Wildfire Service, First Nations plan controlled burns near Chase, Barriere
NESKONLITH and SIMPCW TERRITORY — The B.C. Wildfire Service (BCWS) has announced upcoming prescribed burns near Chase and Barriere, in partnership with local First Nations.
In separate news releases, BCWS says one burn will take place on Neskonlith IR2, about five kilometres southwest of Chase, and should be kept to about 18.9 hectares.
Another burn will take place on North Thompson IR1, next to the village of Chu Chua about 18 kilometres north of Barriere. That burn will cover around 22 hectares. Residents of Chu Chua, Barriere, Darfield, Little Fort and Chinook Cove will be able to see it clearly, as will travellers on Highway 5.
Both burns are scheduled to take place some time between April 12 and April 30. Exact timing depends on weather and site conditions. The burns will only be carried out if venting conditions are favourable.
