B.C. COVID-19 case count increases by 997; 91 cases found in Interior Health

VICTORIA — B.C. has recorded another 997 cases of COVID-19 Wednesday, including 91 in Interior Health.

The totals were included in an update prepared by Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.

The new cases raise the overall B.C. total to 106,985, spread throughout the province as follows:

  • 26,497 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 356)
  • 61,164 — Fraser Health (up by 465)
  • 3,749 — Island Health (up by 67)
  • 9.083 — Interior Health (up by 91)
  • 6,312 — Northern Health (up by 18)
  • 178 — Reside outside of Canada (unchanged)

There are 8,728 active cases in B.C. Wednesday, an increase of 57 from Tuesday. Three-hundred-thirty people are in hospital, with 105 in intensive care.

Within Interior Health, there are 717 active cases, up by 39 from Tuesday. There are 21 people in hospital and eight in critical care.

Henry notes there are 266 active cases considered variants of concern.

Two more people have died of COVID-19, for a total of 1,491 in the province. One of those deaths took place in Interior Health, lifting the regional death toll to 117.

There are 14,602 people under active public health monitoring due to direct contact with COVID-19 cases.

Another 96,626 people are considered fully recovered from the virus, or 90 per cent of all recorded cases.

Henry says the province has administered 946,096 doses of COVID-19 vaccine to date. All those aged 70 or older, Indigenous adults and those who are extremely vulnerable to the virus are now eligible to receive vaccine doses.
