B.C. finds 1,068 new cases of COVID-19, including 106 in Interior Health

KAMLOOPS — B.C.’s COVID-19 case count has grown by another 1,068 new cases, including 106 within Interior Health.

The total was included in an update from Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry Tuesday (Apr. 6).

The near-record case count raises the overall total in B.C. to 105,988, spread throughout B.C. thusly:

• 26,141 — Vancouver Coastal (up by 352)
  60,699 — Fraser Health (up by 492)
  3,682 — Island Health (up by 73)
  8,992 — Interior Health (up by 106)
  6,294 — Northern Health (up by 43)
  178 — Reside outside of Canada (up by 2)

There are 8,671 active cases of the virus Tuesday, up by 181 from Monday. Henry reported 328 people in hospital, including 96 in critical or intensive care.

Within Interior Health, there are 678 active cases, with 21 people in hospital and eight in critical care.

Three more people have died of COVID-19, increasing B.C.’s death toll to 1,489. The death toll in Interior Health remains at 116.

Two-hundred-seven COVID-19 cases have been identified as variants of concern – all but one of them in the Vancouver Coastal region. There have been a total of 3,766 variant cases found in B.C., and Henry says 266 are still active.

A total of 95,691 people are considered fully recovered from the virus, or 90 per cent of all recorded cases.

Meantime, Henry reported 912,056 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to British Columbians.
