Kamloops council hires temporary security for downtown and Tranquille corridor
KAMLOOPS — Security patrol in downtown Kamloops and the Tranquille corridors will begin as soon as Friday (April 2).
Kamloops council approved the hiring of temporary security for both areas, seven days a week between 10:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m., to total to 24/7 security patrol. The $75,000 cost will come from COVID-19 B.C. Safe Restart funds.
The temporarily hired security will last until September, 2021, when the City of Kamloops’ community services officers (CSO) take responsibility.
In addition, council also approved the hiring three additional CSOs: two fulltime employees from Monday to Friday and one part-time employee from Saturday to Sunday. The annual cost for the city is $265,000.
