Kelson Group seeking community input on revised City Gardens development plans

KAMLOOPS — A multi-million dollar downtown development project is gathering public feedback before it submits for a development permit.

In a release today (Mar. 25), the Kelson Group is asking the community to give input on new plans for the City Gardens development. The proposed project would feature more than 500 suites for sale or rent.

First revealed in September of 2020, City Gardens construction is estimated at $140 million, and would include an 18 storey high rise, a 22 storey high rise, several four to five storey rental buildings and townhouses.

The Kelson Group has already purchased more than 3 acres of land in the 400 and 500 blocks between Battle and Nicola Street. After hearing initial concerns about traffic flow and parking in the neighbourhood, the revised plan will ensure the Nicola Street section remains open.

Kelson Group President Jason Fawcett says in the release this development has a focus on improving the downtown landscape.

“Our goal has always been to create a vibrant urban environment enhanced with green spaces and beautiful landscaping,” said Fawcett. “Similar to the originally released plan, we are focused to ensure the development fits into the City’s plans for the downtown core. We aspire to enhance the great culture of our downtown and help fill a need for housing for people who work at the hospital and in offices downtown. We also see this as an ideal development for young families and retirees because everything is so accessible from this central location.”

The first virtual community information session will be held March 29 at 5 p.m. To register, and submit questions, go to www.kelsondowntownproject.ca.
