KAMLOOPS — A wildfire discovered north of Kamloops on Monday (March 22) has been extinguished.

The Lac du Bois Road wildfire grew to 0.8 hectares before it was put out, according to Fire Information Officer Kyla Fraser.

“These kinds of fires are quite common for us to see in the spring,” Fraser said. “The fields are still dry from over the winter, so it’s very easy for a fire to ignite. We haven’t had the green up where the rain comes and brings life back to all the vegetation. It’s very important for people to be extremely cautious with their fire usage at this time of year.”

Fraser said B.C. Wildfire Service believes the fire was human-caused as the Kamloops region has yet to see lightning. She encouraged anyone who comes across a wildfire to keep clear of the scene, especially if crews are on site.
