KAMLOOPS — Athletics Canada has announced a series of nine meets in four provinces and ten cities across the country in the Tokyo Olympics/Paralympics qualifier series.

Each offers opportunities for high performance athletes to achieve the Olympic and Paralympic qualification standard to gain world ranking points.

Three of the series will be hosted by the Kamloops Track and Field Club — all three are throws events.

First is the Kamloops Throws Festival June 5 for discus, hammer, javelin, shot put and seated throws.

That will be followed by the throws event of the Victoria Track Classic to be held at Hillside in discus, hammer, javelin and shot put.

As announced last week by Kamloops Track and Field Club head coach and throws coach Dylan Armstrong, the throws events of the Harry Jerome Classic will be in Kamloops on June 12.

Among local athletes competing in all three meets will be paralympic shot putter Greg Stewart.

Other events in the Athletics Canada Series will be staged in Montreal, Ottawa, Windsor, Toronto, Guelph, Calgary, Victoria, Burnaby and Vancouver.

The Tokyo Olympics open on July 23 followed by the Paralympics beginning August 24.
