KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP say a man arrested for the alleged forcible confinement and assault of a woman last week has now been formally charged.

In a release Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey says on Thursday last week (Mar. 11) just before 5:30 a.m, police responded to a report of an armed man outside a home in the downtown area. Officers arrived on scene and learned that the woman who called police had fled to the location for help.

“The victim was medically assessed at the scene by BC Emergency Health Services. She was transported by ambulance to hospital for medical treatment,” states Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, spokesperson for the Southeast District RCMP.

The suspect was apprehended during a traffic stop conducted by frontline officers near the scene. 59-year-old David Norman Myales of Kamloops remains in custody and is expected in court today.

The B.C. Prosecution Service approved criminal charges against Myales which include:

– unlawful confinement

– assault with a weapon

– uttering threats

– break and enter with intent to commit an offence

– using a firearm while committing an indictable offence

– pointing a firearm.

“We are asking anyone who was in the area of the Kings Motor Inn in the 1700-block of the Trans-Canada Highway and noted any suspicious activity between March 2 and March 10, 2021 and has not already spoken with police, to call the Kamloops RCMP,” adds O’Donaghey.

No further details are being released at this time, and anyone with further information is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000.
